Helping Your Late Talker
Practical strategies to help communication grow in everyday life.
This parent-friendly course is designed to help you better understand your late talker, recognise all the ways your child is already communicating, and feel more confident supporting their language development.
You’ll learn simple, evidence-based strategies you can use during play, meals, books, bath time and everyday routines – without turning home into a therapy room.
Through the easy-to-remember Language Loop™, you’ll discover how to connect, notice, respond, build and continue interactions in ways that create more opportunities for communication and language to grow.
You’ll also learn what late talking can look like, when it may be helpful to seek additional support, and what practical steps you can take next.
Although this course is designed specifically with parents in mind, it is also suited to early childhood educators and teachers working with late talkers.

If your child isn’t talking as much as you expected, it can be difficult to know what to do next.
Our Helping Your Late Talker course is designed to replace some of that uncertainty with practical understanding and clear, achievable strategies.
The course begins by exploring what the term late talker means and exploring why communication is so much more than spoken words. You’ll learn to recognise and respond to early communication attempts, opening up more opportunities for interaction and language learning.
Participants also explore how young children learn language through warm, responsive relationships and everyday back-and-forth interactions. You’ll be introduced to a simple framework for putting evidence-based language strategies into practice, learning practical ways to build language naturally every day.
Rather than expecting parents to create targeted teaching sessions, the focus is on making existing interactions richer, more responsive and more enjoyable.
The course also discusses signs that may indicate a child would benefit from additional support and provides guidance around when it may be helpful to speak with a speech pathologist.
